Memory loss - #10327
Hello Doctor, I am an 18‑year‑old female seeking medical guidance regarding a serious concern. I have been experiencing progressive memory loss, which has been worsening day by day. I previously underwent an MRI scan due to migraine, but the MRI result was normal. However, migraine is not my main concern right now. Current Problems (Main Concern): I am facing severe memory loss. I forget what I study even after reading loudly, writing repeatedly, and using different memorization techniques. After a few hours or days, I forget everything and have to start from the beginning. Recently, this problem has increased significantly. I also forget people and their names. A few days ago, one of my relatives spoke to me on the road, but I could not recognize her at all.Comparison With Past Memory: When I was in class 3–4, I could memorize anything very easily. Sometimes hearing something once or twice was enough, and I never forgot it. Now my memory capacity has drastically declined, which feels abnormal to me. My Questions: Can forced change of handedness in childhood affect brain function or memory in the long term? What could be the possible causes of this progressive memory loss at my age? Should I consult a neurologist or undergo specific tests (blood tests, cognitive tests, etc.)? What steps can I take immediately to prevent further worsening? I am very concerned because this does not feel normal for my age. I would really appreciate your professional guidance. Thank you for your time and help.
