Doctors’ responses

Gulistha, it’s essential not to stop schizophrenia medication without consulting your psychiatrist. Even if you’re not experiencing symptoms, the medication helps manage the underlying condition and prevent relapse. Stopping abruptly can lead to a return of symptoms or withdrawal effects. Here’s what you should do: 1. Consult your psychiatrist before stopping any medication. They will evaluate your progress and help you decide the best course of action. 2. If your doctor agrees, they will gradually reduce your medication dose to prevent withdrawal symptoms or a relapse. 3. Keep a close check on your mental health during the tapering process, and notify your doctor if any symptoms reappear. Stopping TR-2 and other medications should also be done under professional supervision to ensure safety and stability.

Never stop schizophrenia medications on your own, even if you feel better, as symptoms can return suddenly and more severely. Always consult your psychiatrist, who can guide you on whether and how to gradually reduce or to stop it

Hi Gulistha, This is Dr. Aman Shaba. Since you’re feeling better, it’s natural to think about stopping the medicine. But please don’t stop TR-2 or any medicine on your own. Schizophrenia needs long-term treatment, and stopping suddenly can bring back symptoms. We need to review your condition properly before making any changes. If things are stable, we can plan a slow, safe dose reduction. Let me know when you’re ready for that. Dr Aman Shaba Consultant Psychiatrist 7992489808
