Doctors’ responses

Dear Kishore, Bedsores (pressure ulcers) at this stage require urgent care to prevent infection and worsening. Since there is redness, pain, and blistering, it indicates a Stage 2 pressure ulcer, which needs careful wound management. Immediate Care Plan: 1. Pressure Relief: • Change position every 2 hours to reduce pressure on thighs. • Use air or foam mattresses/cushions to reduce pressure. 2. Wound Care: • Clean the wounds with saline (avoid hydrogen peroxide or betadine, as they delay healing). • Apply antibiotic ointment (like Mupirocin) if infection is suspected. • Continue Sorenez Gel for healing but monitor for worsening. • If wounds are weeping or infected, consider hydrocolloid or foam dressings instead of powders. 3. Medication & Pain Management: • Oral antibiotics may be needed if signs of infection appear (fever, increasing redness, pus). • Pain relief (Paracetamol or prescribed pain relievers). 4. Nutrition: • High-protein diet (Eggs, chicken, fish, dairy, pulses) for skin repair. • Vitamin C & Zinc supplements to speed up healing. When to See a Doctor Urgently: • Worsening redness, pus, foul smell, fever (could indicate infection). • Deeper wounds or dead tissue (may require surgical debridement). • Increased pain or spreading brownish patches (could be early necrosis). Since he has Parkinson’s and limited mobility, extra precautions are needed. A doctor’s evaluation is recommended soon to check for infection and possibly switch to more effective treatment. Wishing him a smooth recovery.
