Hello dear Please be aware See throat pain or pharyngitis has multiple causes ranging from simple dental infections like pericoronitis to viral infections like influenza or even covid There can be chances of bacterial infections like from streptococcus mutans. So usually medications like antibiotics along with warm saline rinses 6 hourly a day are prescribed for minimum 5 days along with anti-inflammatory medications. As per clinical history,it seems viral fever which will usually subside after 5 days. I suggest you to please share medication allergy if present ( as per telemedicine code of ethics)so that I can prescribe the required medications for symptomatic relief Regards

You may be experiencing a severe throat infection, possibly viral or bacterial, such as strep throat or tonsillitis. The persistent throat pain, difficulty swallowing, and fever with body aches suggest a worsening infection, which may require medical attention. Since your father had similar symptoms recently, it could indicate a contagious infection. It is advisable to consult a doctor promptly for a throat examination and possible testing, such as a throat swab or blood tests. You may need antibiotics if it is bacterial, along with anti-inflammatory medications and hydration support. Until then, rest, drink warm fluids (if tolerable), and consider over-the-counter pain relievers to manage symptoms.

I’m really sorry to hear you're feeling so unwell. Given the symptoms you're describing—severe throat pain, difficulty swallowing (even water), fever, and body aches—it’s important that you get medical attention as soon as possible. While your father’s symptoms resolved on their own, your symptoms have been going on longer and are more severe, which may indicate that you need professional care. ### Possible Causes: 1. **Tonsillitis or Pharyngitis**: A viral or bacterial infection in the throat can cause pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, and body aches. In some cases, it can be caused by a bacterial infection like **Streptococcus (Strep throat)**, which might require antibiotics. 2. **Mononucleosis (Mono)**: This is a viral infection that can cause severe throat pain, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and difficulty swallowing. It is often accompanied by body aches and can last for a couple of weeks. 3. **Other Viral Infections**: There are a variety of viruses (e.g., flu, COVID-19, or common cold viruses) that can cause throat pain, fever, and body aches. 4. **Abscess or Infection in the Throat**: If the pain is severe and persistent, there could be a throat abscess or an infection like **peritonsillar abscess** (which often occurs with tonsillitis) that needs medical intervention. ### What to Do Next: 1. **Seek Medical Attention ASAP**: Since you've been dealing with this for 15 days, and it's interfering with your ability to eat and drink, you should definitely see a healthcare provider. Difficulty swallowing, especially if you can’t drink water, can lead to dehydration, so it's important to get checked out soon. 2. **Hydration**: Try to stay hydrated as much as possible. Even if you can’t swallow much, small sips of water, ice chips, or electrolyte drinks can help keep you from getting dehydrated. 3. **Pain Relief**: Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) can help reduce fever and alleviate throat pain, but it’s important to follow up with a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment. 4. **Get Tested**: Depending on your symptoms and a doctor's assessment, they may recommend tests (e.g., a throat culture or rapid strep test) to determine if it's a bacterial infection, like strep throat, or if it's viral in nature. 5 you can try gargling with lukewarm water and salt twice to thrice daily ### Additional Considerations: - **Follow Your Father’s Experience**: While your father’s symptoms resolved on their own, it’s still a good idea to get medical advice, as your symptoms are more prolonged and severe. - **Rule Out Serious Conditions**: It's always better to be cautious, especially if you're unable to drink fluids or the pain is severe. If left untreated, certain conditions can worsen and cause complications. In summary, while your father’s symptoms may have resolved without intervention, it's very important that you see a doctor, especially since your symptoms are lasting longer, and you’re having difficulty swallowing. A ENT SPECIALIST will be able to determine the exact cause and suggest the best course of treatment.
