Weight loss issue and digestive issues. - #9147

Raisa Dey

I'm suffering from chronic gastric issues. I can't digest anything. I'm lactose intolerant, I can't tolerate gluten. I'm getting skinny day by day. I tried to gain weight in every possible way. Discussed with lot of healthcare professionals why I'm so skinny but no one could solve my problem. It's very difficult for me to gain weight even after taking nutritious diet. I'm literally struggling with my health.

Doctors’ responses

Hi Raisa, It sounds tough dealing with chronic gastric issues, food intolerances, and trouble gaining weight. Since you also have thyroid problems, it’s likely a mix of malabsorption, gut imbalance, and metabolism issues affecting your weight. What You Can Do: 1. Follow a gluten-free, lactose-free diet with calorie-dense foods (rice, ghee, nut butter, bananas). 2. Eat small, frequent meals to reduce digestive stress. 3. Try probiotics and digestive enzymes to improve gut health. 4. Check thyroid levels and address any imbalances. If symptoms persist, further tests (like stool tests, SIBO, or food intolerance tests) may help. Let me know how you’re feeling!

It sounds like you're dealing with chronic malabsorption issues, likely worsened by your thyroid condition and food intolerances. Despite eating a nutritious diet, your body may not be properly absorbing nutrients. What you can do: Diet: Eat calorie-dense, easily digestible foods (nut butters, avocados, olive oil) and have small, frequent meals. Supplements: Try digestive enzymes and gluten-free, lactose-free probiotics to support gut health. Medical tests: Get a thyroid panel, celiac test, and stool test to check for malabsorption. Lifestyle: Manage stress, stay hydrated, and consider working with a gastroenterologist and dietitian for a personalized plan. If your weight keeps dropping or symptoms worsen, seek medical help.
