Had emergency laparoscomy yesterday. It's now the morning after and my heart rate is through the roof... - #10143
Went into the ER 2 days ago (on an empty stomache, rushed there because the abdominal pain was so severe). Nurses ran full blood panel and urine tests....said everything looked great and normal. However, CT scan did indeed show a slightly ruptured appendix. So I was scheduled to be held overnight and had the lap appendectomy performed successfully yesterday afternoon. One thing to mention: that same morning before heading into surgery, I woke up with violent unstoppable shaking that wouldn't cease. I needed immediate medical attention and the nurses and doctors were all clueless about why my pulse was over 120 and my blood pressure was through the roof. I believe they then injected me with some type of suppressants and all was fine a few minutes later and I was cleared for surgery. They obviously also checked my vitals prior to releasing me so I must have been within acceptable ranges then. Fast forward to this morning. I've been laying in bed and my heart feels like it's about to jump out of my chest. I put on my smart watch and immediately realize that my relaxed laying down in bed pulse is hovering around 109-111. I get up and slowly walk to the bathroom and my pulse immediately jumps up around 115-120. I don't have any chest pains or shortness of breath and my abdomen and surgically repaired area actually feel much better than they did before I went in, but this freaks me out. I'm currently on the doctor's prescribed dose of once every 6 hour oxycodone and a stool softener. Now I'm rushing over to google to see if people had a similar experience since I know the heart can try and compensate and work harder after a surgical procedure as the body is trying to heal. Is this any reason for immediate concern? Again, it's the morning right after the surgery, so I don't know what to expect. But the pulse seems excessively high and that worries me. Thank you for your time.
