How to find a proper medicament - #10276

Anna Vardanyan

My mother has a rheumatoid arthritis already 20 years. She is now 74 years old. Her main treatment has been through Sulfasalazine tablets (2mg daily). Last year on April she was hospitalized with anemia (28 hemoglobin (HGB) and pancitopenia, Diagnosis: Folate and B12 deficiency). After a 5 months treatment with B12, folate, her hemoglobin increased until 89 and started again to decrease. We started to drink Metipred (8ml daily) about 7 months and her HGB increased to normal 128. Doctor prescribed again Sulfasalazine (500ml daily) simultaneously with Metipred, she is drinking Sulf. already 2 months and her blood cells started to drop again. Her current test results are the following: HGB- 112 WBC -2.43 NEUT#-0.42 ESR-55 CRP quant.-33.3 RF-122 ALT-92 AST-62.8 FOL-16.6 Vit. B12-1819 (we are making injections her every 2 week of 1ml, that is why it is so high) ANA pattern AC2 Please, let me know, whether the increase of blood cells to such amount can be due to the Sulfasalazine and should we continue to drink it in such a situation? And if not, what medicine should we replace it with so that it is less dangerous for the blood? Thank you in advance for your kind reply. Anna Vardanyan
