Irregular periods

My periods are irregular from last 6 months. My periods used to last for 6 days but nw it only lasts for 1 or 2 days. I had nabothian cyst which is now cured. I am married and I have serious issues with my periods as they only last for 1 or 2 days and they are irregular as well.

Hello Muneba, Thanks for sharing that—since you're just 20, the sudden change in your periods is definitely something worth getting to the bottom of, especially since they were regular before. Given your age and the symptoms (irregular cycles, shortened periods, past Nabothian cyst), here are some focused possibilities: Top Likely Causes at Your Age: 1. **PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)** - Very common in young women. - May cause: - Irregular periods - Short, light bleeding - Acne, weight gain, or facial/body hair (but not always!) - Can be diagnosed with: - Pelvic ultrasound (to check for multiple small cysts in ovaries) - Blood tests: LH/FSH ratio, testosterone, insulin, etc. 2. **Thyroid Dysfunction** - Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or hyperthyroidism can affect your cycle. - Simple blood test (TSH, T3, T4) will clarify this. 3. **Stress / Weight Changes / Diet** - Mental or physical stress, under-eating, or rapid weight changes can shut down ovulation. - This leads to shorter or missed periods. 4. **Hormonal Imbalance or Early Ovarian Dysfunction** - Although rare at your age, low estrogen or hormonal issues can cause thin endometrial lining—leading to only 1–2 days of bleeding. 5. **Post-Cyst Hormonal Disruption** - Sometimes after Nabothian cysts or minor gynecological procedures, your hormones take time to settle, especially if you were given any hormonal medication. What You Should Consider Doing: **1. Hormonal Blood Work** (done on Day 2–5 of your cycle if possible): - **FSH & LH** - **TSH (thyroid) - **Prolactin - **Estradiol (E2) - **AMH** (to assess ovarian reserve) - **Testosterone & DHEA-S** (if acne or hair issues) 2. Pelvic Ultrasound** - To check ovaries (for PCOS signs) - Endometrial lining thickness - Any structural changes after cyst healing Dr Shayeque Reza MD 9800280276

How to deal with disturb periods cycle

I am writing to seek your advice regarding a persistent issue with my menstrual cycle. For the past four years, my periods have consistently lasted only two days. This is a noticeable change from what I understand to be the typical duration, and it is causing me concern. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with you further and understand the potential causes for this shortened duration. I am otherwise generally healthy, but I am unsure if this could indicate an underlying medical condition that requires attention. Could you please advise on whether this warrants a consultation and what steps I should take next?

you need to share everything before initiating your treatment. Either you can take my individual consultation here or you can do whatsapp consultation. Dr Shayeque Reza MD

Hiii Kajal… If urine pregnancy test is negative. Than other can several causes. Firstly u should go for ultrasound , In initial time of pregnancy test chould negative. Here are a few potential causes and steps you might consider: 1. *Stress*: High levels of stress can affect your menstrual cycle. Try to manage stress through relaxation techniques, exercise, or talking to a friend or professional. 2. *Weight Changes*: Significant weight gain or loss can impact your menstrual cycle. Maintaining a healthy weight through a balanced diet and regular exercise can help regulate your periods. 3. *Hormonal Imbalance*: Hormonal changes can affect your menstrual cycle. If you suspect a hormonal imbalance, u can consult with me direct nd we need to do Harmonal testing 4. *Medical Conditions*: Certain medical conditions, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or other hormonal imbalances, can cause irregular periods. Doctor, I'm 20 years old, 5 feet tall, and weigh 95 kg. I'm concerned about my menstrual cycle, which has been no periods for the past 6-7 months. I haven't had a period during this time. I'm not pregnant, but I do have high blood pressure. I'm worried that my irregular periods might be related to my weight or blood pressure. I've noticed that I've been gaining weight over the past few years, and I'm not sure if this is contributing to my menstrual issues. I'm looking for your advice on how to regulate my period cycle. I'm willing to make lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, if that's what it takes. I'd also like to know if there are any medical treatments or supplements that can help. Could you please help me identify the underlying cause of my irregular periods and suggest a plan to get my cycle back on track?"

Hello Suprabhati, I understand this must be really frustrating for you. Let me explain the common causes of irregular periods to you. 1. Lifestyle- Unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, stress, increased BMI 2. Medical causes- Hormonal imbalance. PCOS, medical disorders such as thyroid disorders, Diabetes, PCOS, infections such as STI, endometriosis, any anatomical defect in the genital tract 3. Use of medicines such as oral contraceptive pills, steroids, herbal medicines 4. Pregnancy. In your case weight seems to be an issue leading to problems such as High BP and Irregular periods. The most likely cause of your problem seems to be PCOS which can lead to weight gain subsequently causing irregular cycles and high BP. High BP at 20 years of age is slightly concerning especially if you have no familial history. I would like to advise Lifestyle modifications such as daily aerobic exercises with cardio to lose weight along with Healthy diet with lots of veggies and fruits containing antioxidants. I would also like to advice a few tests such as CBC, Liver function tests, Kidney function tests, sugars- HbA1C, FBS PPBS, Thyroid panel, Hormonal Tests- FSH LH Prolactin on day 2 of menses, Urine pregnancy test and an Ultrasound Abdomen+Pelvis. This would help us to understand to cause of your irregular cycles and high BP and we can then start any medicines if needed for the same. Also consult a General Physician for your High BP Hope this helps! Take care!

I am 27 yrs old, i have thyroid. 4.38 and have cyst in both the ovaries and also have grade 2 fatty liver.. trying for baby.. please help me out .. my periods are irregular, can't able to loose weight..

Hi Puja! Firstly you have to calm down and lower your stress levels. For which you have to start walking yoga and meditation. Secondly you have to loose your weight and for that you have to follow strict diet regimen. With strict diet regimen and calm mind you'll be able to loose weight Further we can look at your scans and blood tests for what actual problem is. Once the weight is reduced you'll get a healthy liver, thyroid levels will be in control and regular painless periods. Also kindly reply with your obstetrics history that is.. whether have you conceived earlier. Since when you are taking thyroid medication. And else we can discuss in the appointment. Hopefully I'll be able to help you with further management
