Doctors’ responses

Hi Farhana, yes, it’s possible to get pregnant naturally even with one blocked fallopian tube, as long as the other tube is open and you’re ovulating from that side. Since both your and your husband’s tests are normal, that’s a good sign. If your period is 48 days late, and the pregnancy test is negative, repeat the test using early morning mid-stream urine, which gives the most accurate result. You can also consider a blood beta-hCG test for confirmation. Delayed periods can also be due to stress, mild hormonal shifts, or thyroid fluctuations, even if your thyroid levels are currently under control. If you don’t conceive in the next few months, consider tracking ovulation or seeing a fertility expert for support.

If your right fallopian tube is blocked but everything else—including your left tube, ovulation, hormones, and your husband’s tests—are normal, then natural pregnancy is still possible. The healthy left tube can still pick up an egg from either ovary, as the body is often adaptable. However, it may take longer and requires good timing and patience. The fact that your periods are delayed by 48 days but the pregnancy test is negative could be due to stress, hormonal shifts, or even irregular ovulation. Since you have hypothyroidism (currently normal), it’s important to continue monitoring it, as thyroid levels can affect your cycle and fertility. If your period doesn’t come within a week, you can repeat the pregnancy test or do a blood test (beta-hCG) for confirmation. Also, consider doing a scan to check if ovulation happened this cycle. Staying relaxed, eating a hormone-supportive diet, and timing intercourse around ovulation can increase your natural chances—many women with one tube go on to conceive successfully.
