Lifestyle and Supportive Care → Ensure 7–8 hours of sleep daily → Small, frequent meals — focus on protein and complex carbs → Moderate physical activity (e.g., 10–20 mins of walking daily) → Limit screen time and avoid social media doom-scrolling → Maintain a daily routine (fixed sleep-wake time, hygiene, sunlight exposure)

Hey Kritika, I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. To understand better, can you share: 1. When did these feelings start? 2. Was there a specific event or stressor that triggered them? 3. Are you having trouble sleeping or noticing changes like fatigue or appetite loss? 4. Have you talked to anyone about it? You should also try the following: 1. Sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours each night. Try a relaxing bedtime routine. 2. Nutrition: Eat balanced meals and avoid skipping meals. 3. Exercise: Regular activities like walking or yoga can boost your mood. 4. Support: Talk to friends, family, or a therapist for guidance. Please consider seeing a mental health professional (psychologist or psychiatrist). If you’re having self-harm thoughts, reach out to someone you trust or a helpline immediately. You’re not alone in this. Help is available.

Hi Kritika, this is Dr. Aman Shaba. I’m really sorry you're going through this. From what you’ve shared — low mood, anxiety, loss of interest, appetite issues, and self-harm thoughts — it sounds like you're dealing with clinical depression. Medication can definitely help, but it’s important to first have a proper evaluation so the right one is chosen for you. Antidepressants like SSRIs are commonly prescribed, but the dose and type depend on your full mental and physical health assessment. Please don’t ignore the self-harm thoughts — I strongly advise seeing a psychiatrist as soon as possible, and if the thoughts feel overwhelming, seek help immediately (family, helpline, or emergency care). You are not alone in this, and treatment really helps. If you’d like, I can guide you through the process. Dr Aman Shaba Consultant Psychiatrist

Hi Kritika, I agree with above doctors about the need for medications and other lifestyle modifications that you need to make in order to battle depression. Please know that depression is a frank medical disorder and in no way indicator of someone's weakness or poor coping skills. Depression can be caused by faulty neurotransmission due to imbalance in neurotransmitter levels in the brain, and rectification of these issues need treatment. Depending upon severity, you might need medications and/ or therapy or both. Please consult your nearest psychiatrist at the earliest for further assessment and management. You can also reach out to Telemanas helpline number 14416 if you need to talk to someone or having self harm thoughts. Regards, Dr. Charan Kumar, MD Psychiatry ( NIMHANS)

I'm really sorry you're feeling this way—it's important to reach out to a mental health professional, like a counselor or therapist, who can help guide you through these difficult feelings. You don't have to go through this alone, and getting support can make a big difference in managing depression and anxiety.
