Chest tightness

I had a chest pain 2 months ago, dr told to do chest xray and ecg but reports came out to be normal. This dr gave muscle relaxant and the pain was gone. Now recently I am fearing that I might get a heart attack and having physical symptoms like chest tightness and left arm pain. What might this possibly mean.

Hello , Clinical Summary: You experienced chest pain 2 months ago, for which ECG and chest X-ray were normal, and it responded well to a muscle relaxant, suggesting the cause was musculoskeletal rather than cardiac. Now, you're experiencing chest tightness and left arm discomfort again, accompanied by fear of a heart attack and physical symptoms that may be part of an anxiety or panic-related response — which is not uncommon, especially after a previous episode that left you worried. Possible Causes of Your Current Symptoms: Musculoskeletal Chest Pain (Costochondritis / Muscle strain): Often sharp, worsens with movement or deep breathing Can radiate to the arm or shoulder Responds to anti-inflammatories or muscle relaxants Anxiety/Panic-Related Chest Symptoms: Often present with tightness, palpitations, breathlessness May mimic heart attack symptoms Frequently linked to stress, fear of illness, or previous traumatic health experience Usually normal ECG and physical exams Cardiac Pain (Angina): Typically pressure-like, worsens with exertion, relieved by rest Associated with shortness of breath, sweating, nausea More likely in individuals with risk factors: diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, high BP, family history What You Should Do Now: Don’t ignore the symptoms – While they might be anxiety-related or musculoskeletal, it’s safest to repeat an ECG and consult a physician or cardiologist for a proper evaluation. Get these checked: ECG (again) 2D Echo (to assess heart structure and function) TMT (Treadmill stress test) if recommended Blood tests: Troponin I (if current chest pain is active), lipid profile, thyroid function, vitamin D/B12 levels If anxiety is suspected: You may be experiencing a psychosomatic pattern, where anxiety causes physical symptoms. A short course of anti-anxiety treatment, relaxation techniques, and counseling can help tremendously. Meanwhile, things you can do: Avoid stimulants like excess caffeine Practice slow breathing or meditation during symptoms Keep a diary of symptoms – what triggers it, what relieves it Ensure good posture if working long hours or sleeping poorly Stay physically active (mild-moderate walking, yoga, etc.) Final Thought: Your fear is understandable, but your prior tests being normal and pain resolving with muscle relaxants points away from a cardiac cause. Still, get a cardiac evaluation for reassurance — and don’t hesitate to address anxiety, as it’s a very real condition that can mimic serious physical illness. This requires proper follow for treatment. You can consult me Dr Shayeque Reza MD 9800280276

Chest tightness, shortness of breath, feeling discomfort….actually it is happened after taking stress…..it mostly occurs at night but after completing sleep ,it is normal for sometime…on other hand i have irregular periods…this time , i am not getting periods since 3 months

Divya, you're 21 and experiencing chest tightness, shortness of breath, and loss of appetite—mostly after stress, especially at night, and it settles by morning. This pattern often indicates a stress-related or anxiety response. When you're emotionally overwhelmed, your body reacts physically—this is common and treatable. A detailed evaluation is important to rule out other causes and confirm if it's anxiety. Treatment is usually simple with therapy, stress management, and if needed, short-term support. I suggest booking an audio or video consultation so we can assess it properly and help you feel better soon. Dr Aman Shaba Consultant Psychiatrist 7992489808

How to reduce or remove pain

On off chest pain but ecg Echo is normal and always burping. GERD symptoms but have the left side chest pain, doctor gives the mac rabonik dsr capsule, nuroloc tr-20 table, amiton plus, Aroraft Alginate raft-foaming oral suspension B.P.syrup for 30 days, After 1 week no result now what I do.and I have health anxiety like heart attack.

Since your ECG and echocardiogram are normal, your chest pain is most likely related to GERD (acid reflux) and anxiety rather than a heart issue. GERD can cause left-sided chest pain, burping, and discomfort due to acid irritation in the esophagus. Anxiety can also amplify these symptoms, making them feel worse. If the prescribed medications haven't provided relief after a week, it may take more time, but you can also try additional lifestyle modifications such as eating smaller meals, avoiding spicy and acidic foods, not lying down immediately after eating, and reducing caffeine and alcohol intake. Since you have health anxiety, your focus on heart attack fears might be worsening your symptoms. Try relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation to manage stress. If symptoms persist despite treatment, consult your doctor for further evaluation, such as an endoscopy, to check for ulcers or severe acid reflux damage. Also, ask if an alternative treatment like a different PPI (proton pump inhibitor) or anxiety management strategies might be helpful.
