Hello Seema. Have you been diagnosed with OCD by mental health professionals? Sometimes, repetitive thinking or brooding can also be caused by Depression and anxiety. Pointers towards OCD are that the thoughts or images coming to the mind must be repetitive, intrusive (occuring irrespective of how much ever you are involved with your work), appearing meaningless and excessive sometimes, associated with anxiety which is relieved by doing physical or mental compulsions or avoidance of triggering factors or situations altogether. Sometimes, OCad can also be worsened by additional stress factors and is a very fluctuating disorder. OCD is a true medical disorder and is not treatable by its own and needs professional help. Management includes 1) Medications - High dose SSRIs for atleast 1 year 2) Exposure and Response Prevention therapy / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy 3) Mindfulness techniques and stress management. Kindly consult psychiatrist for further evaluation and assessment. I hope this answers your question. Regards, Dr. Charan Kumar, MD Psychiatry (NIMHANS).

Obsessive thoughts like repetitive words are a symptom of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, caused by a combination of chemical imbalance (mainly serotonin), stress, and thought patterns that become “stuck.” Medications like SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine, sertraline) are commonly used and usually take 6–12 weeks to show full effects. They’re often continued for 6 months to a few years, depending on your progress and relapse risk. The buzzing or pressure-like sensation in your head could be due to anxiety, sensory overload, or side effects of medication — this should be discussed with your psychiatrist to rule out any neurological causes. Alternative therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — especially Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) — are very effective and can reduce or even eliminate the need for long-term medication in some people. Mindfulness, meditation, reducing screen time, and managing your daily stressors can also ease symptoms. OCD doesn’t go away overnight, but with consistent treatment and patience, it can become manageable, and you can regain peace of mind. Let me know if you'd like a CBT-based self-help routine or a checklist to track your triggers.

Seema, you're 24 and having repetitive words in mind with a buzzing sound. OCD can sometimes start suddenly, often due to stress or internal triggers. Have you been diagnosed by a psychiatrist? A detailed evaluation is important to confirm OCD and understand your symptoms fully. Treatment is tailored for each person and includes both medicine and therapy. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is effective. With proper care, symptoms improve and medicine may be stopped later. I suggest booking an audio or video consultation for complete assessment and guidance.
