Doctors’ responses

Hi Roy, Yes, it’s important to remove stains regularly. Stains may seem harmless, but they can lead to plaque buildup, which increases your risk of gum disease and tooth decay, especially since diabetes can impact oral health. Addressing Your Questions: • Do stains cause damage? While stains don’t directly harm teeth, they can indicate plaque or tartar, which may erode enamel over time. • Does descaling increase sensitivity? Mild sensitivity after cleaning is normal but temporary. Descaling actually improves gum health by removing tartar that can cause recession and sensitivity. • For Sensitive Teeth: • Switch to a soft-bristled brush and brush gently. • Use sensitive toothpaste (like Sensodyne). • Avoid acidic foods that worsen sensitivity. Keep your blood sugar under control and visit your dentist every 6 months.
